Since 2014 I have taken part in a number of different sporting events to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity, including the Edinburgh Marathon in 2015, the Caledonia Etape, the Beatson Cancer Charity ‘Aim for the Skye’ cycle ride (a cycle from the Beatson in Glasgow to the Isle of Skye), Tough Mudder and a relay swim of the length of Loch Lomond. I have a previous blog which talks about most of my earlier pursuits which you can see here and includes lots of wee videos too. During this process I have had the privilege to become one of the Charity’s Ambassadors, and as a consultant at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre I see how much the charity can help our patients.
In 2018 I took a break from fundraising but always planned to raise money again this year by doing the Ironman. This year is the fifth anniversary of the Beatson Cancer Charity, and to mark this they have launched their ‘5 years with you’ campaign. To celebrate this, I have signed up to five sporting challenges in five months, culminating in Ironman Wales.
My five events are:
Caledonia Etape – Sunday 19th May – A hilly 85 mile cycle around Perthshire
Edinburgh Marathon – Sunday 26th May
Happy Valley Triathlon – Sunday 30th June – flying the Scottish flag at this sprint distance triathlon in Pennsylvania, USA
Stornoway Triathlon – Sunday 27th July – a standard (olympic) distance open water triathlon on the Isle Lewis
Ironman Wales – Sunday 15th September – my first (and last) iron-distance event in Tenby, Pembrokeshire.
If anyone looking at this feels generous enough to donate to this excellent cause, my fundraising page can be found at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/HilaryGlen.
Thank you!
